More about Outlook and dat file format

When I send an Outlook 2000 mail message in RTF format and attach a Word 2000 document (.doc format) the attachment often ends up at the recipients in a .dat format and is not readable. Using plain text for the mail message seems to avoid the conversion but I was wondering if there is another way to avoid this "feature".

nope, it's caused by the RTF message format, so the only fix is to not use the RTF message format.
