    File Open WordPad

I have a new Windows 7 Pro 64 bit machine
double clicking a docx file opens word 2013
and right click, open opens word
and clicking on the open icon in the tool bar opens word
    All good!

BUT... clicking on File in the menu and then Open opens the document in WordPad

I checked the default file associations. It shows both Word and WordPad (in that order)
I've checked the registry with regedit and there is nothing that links .docx and WordPad that I could find

    Any ideas?

Somehow both programs have gotten associated with the file format. Wordpad and Word can both work with .doc and .docx files so I'd right-click one of the files in Windows Explorer [renamed to File Explorer in Win8/8.1 and Win10], choose Open With then choose Word. May have to drop down to Choose default program. Be sure to put a checkmark in the Always use... box.
