Can't download in Edge or IE11 in Win10

I get no response at all when clicking on download buttons in either Edge or IE11.
I have no trouble in Firefox, but I'd rather use Edge if I can. I've searched for settings that may be preventing downloads without any success.
Has anyone else had this problem, or any advise on overcoming it?

Is this a personal or work PC?

Using the Default installation of both browsers gives me no problems with downloading, just got half a dozen programs from Majorgeeks. I run AVG antivirus, doesn't seem to be blocking 'good' things.

It's a personal one, Joe, and I'm running Win 10 565 on the insider prog, although I had the same problem on the previous build.
I've tried not blocking pop ups, makes no difference. there must be a privacy or a security setting that's causing this, but I can't locate it. Plus Firefox has no problem.

Is this Win10 Pro? Are you familiar with GPEDIT?

It is Win10 Pro. I've never used GPEDIT, how's it work?

GPEDIT is the Group Policy Editor.

This is an overview of how it works...

However, if you don't know what policy to change, it can do more harm than good just randomly changing settings.

I would suggest doing a reset of Internet Explorer...Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab.

Click on the Reset button. This will roll IE 11 back to the default settings that Berton mentioned above.

This means that any customizations you've made or add-ons installed will be lost.

You might try a reset of Edge as well.

It is always prudent to back up your system first before making any changes.

I did a full reset of IE11, including restarting, but it made no difference. I couldn't find any reset options in Edge, either in Settings or Advanced Settings.
I had a look at gpedit but everything is marked 'Not Configured' so no settings have been changed there.

I would check the Event logs for errors, and run a system health report in Performance Monitor.

I've found no errors in the Event logs or Perfmon, so I'm no wiser.
I have submitted the problem to Microsoft through the feedback process. Not much hope of a result there!
