    ID Experts

Anyone ever heard of an identity protection service called ID Experts? A friend of mine is asking if she should sign up for it.

I just learned that Dave Ramsey endorses ID Experts -- they are offered by Zander Insurance.

Dave Ramsey is a financial advisor who has a national radio program. And as far as what they do that I can't do myself: They monitor the financial world to see if my identity has been stolen, and to try to prevent that from happening; and they will help me get things cleaned up, in case it has been stolen.

I'm really not up to the task of monitoring lots and lots of websites and other areas to see if someone is using my identity, nor am I up to the task of cleaning up the mess someone will make if they steal my identity.

For me, it's a lot easier to throw a few dollars per month to someone who specializes in this sort of thing.

I am not against you spending your money as you see fit, but I suspect that once a clone you appears on web sites the horse has bolted, so all you are doing is paying them to clean up. I'd make sure that you will not be liable for the debts the clone has incurred if you use their services.

These services generally include insurance -- that is, that they will cover any losses you have incurred while subscribed to their service, up to a certain amount. I believe Lifelock covers losses up to a million dollars.

It is the 'cleanup' part that is the most daunting, and serious. Credit card charges are still mostly covered by the CC companies as long as reported in a timely fashion, that is why keeping ones books up to date is important (or at least look at the bill) Some may pay CC automatically and not notice a big$ charge for a couple of months. Having ones ID stolen can have serious and costly consequences. I remember reading about some who's ID was stolen who took a trip and got IDed and arrested because someone had been doing nasty after assuming his identity. He spent a while in jail before getting it sorted out a bit, locally at least. There were IIRC other jurisdictions that had warrants out on 'him'.
If the company can help w/ that it might be worth it to many.

A "credit freeze" may be more effective than credit monitoring...
