    Western Digital Acquires SanDisk

SanDisk is a major player in the NAND flash memory market with flash products spanning consumer flash cards and USB sticks to client and enterprise SSDs as well as storage systems and supporting software. The company has joint ownership with Toshiba of large flash memory manufacturing facilities and has an impressive patent portfolio. SanDisk was the first company founded as a flash memory memory design and manufacturing company 27 years ago. In addition to flash memory SanDisk is working on next generation non-volatile memory products. It recently announced a deal with HP to supply flash memory products for HPs enterprise products as well as partner with them on their second-generation Memristor technology.

With prices for storage media dropping, we'll likely see more mergers.

As there are effectively only 3 manufacturers I can't see that one being allowed by the regulators.
