    What version of W7?
If pro you should be ok. Home not so Premium needs a couple of work arounds. I have done it but do not know where my notes are at present.

    Yes.

Follow the step by step instructions in this Microsoft article section titled Installing and using Windows XP Mode

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...e-in-windows-7

As mentioned above, make sure you're running Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate first.

Thanks to all of you who have helped.
I went to the MS website and followed the instructions for installing XP mode and Virtual PC.
When i click on the XPmode icon, I get a message "Cannot start Windows Virtual PC host process. Check the system event log for more details" below that message it says"server execution failed"

The problem has been solved, thanks to all who helped.
I could not find the event log. On a hunch, I deleted WinXP mode and reinstalled it. It installed perfectly, asked for a password, and started Win xp.
I hope I am now in the clear.
Thanks again for all your help.

    Good to hear.

For future reference, the Event logs can be accessed by navigating to the Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer.

Expand the Custom Views folder, and click on Administrative Events.

This view will show Warnings, Errors, and Critical events from all logs.
