    'Send To' printer

I have a bunch of JPG's which I would like to send to a network printer en masse from WIN Explorer, but right-click has no Print option, and I can't seem to add a shortcut to the "Send To" folder. I need to go thru the printer setup options so I can select B/W printing; low quality.
Any suggestions other than doing it thru a photo editing program? O.S. - WIN2000 SP2.
    Thanks all for the help.

Do you have Administrator rights on your profile? It looks like some restrictions was set (you can't add shortcuts to Documents and Settings< your username >SendTo folder).
Contact your network administrator or logon as Administrator and check JPG file options (from Windows Explorer, highlight any JPG file on the right pane and open File menu: Send To... | Printers option must be available).
In Printers folder (Start | Settings | Printers) use Add New Printer wizard to create new instance of your network printer and set options you want.

You could configure the printer setup, and then drag and drop the JPGs to the printer icon in explorer....just remember to change the printer output back to normal afterward!

    Re: 'Send To' printer

Couple of points as I was interested in following this thread:

When you say "drag and drop the JPG's to the printer icon in Explorer" - do you mean to a (desktop) shortcut to the printer?
If so, all you would have to do is install a copy of the (default) printer, configure this second printer to the required defaults, and use a shortcut to it.

When I tried dragging and dropping JPG's to my printer, it invokes PhotoEditor and prints OK, but prints out 2 copies!

I have MS Paint as my default editor for GIF's, but for some reason Paint defaults to printing pages 1-65535 (!) - any ideas why?

    Re: 'Send To' printer

Thanks for the replies, but no go. I am the admin. so am able to add shortcut to the printer and did, and set the default program for the jpg's to Image Composer, but that only solved part of the problem. Now multiple selections can be made, and 'send to' printer shortcut opens the printer properties for each one in Image Comp., but I still have to select B/W for each one individually because it resets after each print. That's a lot better than before, but still not perfect. Tried adding another printer thru Control Panel/Printers both as a new network printer and as an Intranet printer (supplying the proper URL). Both procedures complete normally, but I end up with just the original networked printer showing up. This is a Xerox (Tektronix) Phaser 860 which came with its' own install procedure which found an unused address, etc., so maybe it isn't possible to change it unless I direct connect; which I don't want to do because it is shared between other computers. THANKS for all the help so far! Any more ideas would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Karl

Hmm - I never thought it about it being a network printer. You're right! - you can't add a duplicate!

If you are feeling brave, you could try and add it via the registry - usual warnings about backing up first apply.

This might give you some clues - if you can find the entry for the network printer in question and copy it using a slightly differnt descriptive name, it might just work!

    Good luck.

That, or to the printer icon in Explorer.

I wonder about the two copies - that sounds strange enough. What is the default command assigned to JPGs in Explorer uner file associations?

Now, with Paint, I haven't a clue. I don't even use it for the simplest of things because I have found it to be hard to work with - defeating the whole idea of simple in the process. Since I always install Office in one flavor or another, I make sure that the MS Photo Editor gets installed with it - that's what paint should be!

My Explorer doesn't have a printer icon - unless you mean in the printers folder itself?

    JPG (Print) = "C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedPhotoEdPHOTOED.EXE" /p "%1"

    I tried different printers and it is still the same - 2 copies regardless <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>
