fixes for "windows repair disc has stopped working" ?

    Windows 7 home premium, 64-bit
working system, 2+ yrs, no problems that I know of
Attempting to create system repair disc, this happens instantly:
    1. Create system repair disc window pops up, asking for target drive/disc etc
    2. Instantly grays out, with this error box on top:
MS Windows Repair Disc has stopped working

tried safe mode; i have full admin privileges; no luck.

I find lots of info out there about various obscure causes -- generally involving some program interfering with the system -- and solutions (dell machines, box sync, etc) that either don't apply in my case or don't work.

I also note there are commercial products that claim to either fix or workaround the problem -- but no reviews, and no objective experience I can find using the products.

Any sane suggestions would be greatly appreciated. THANKS

Can you run a Command Prompt as an admin by going Start - type cmd then right click on cmd and select Run as administrator - accept the UAC and enter recdisc.exe

This will give you a pop up to create a repair disk - see if that works, else at the admin command prompt enter sfc /scannow to see what that reports.

If it reports it is unable to repair some files then enter -

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

This will create an icon on the Desktop which will open the CBS log in Notepad which you can copy & paste into the reply box.
