A Win10 upgrade with persistent errors

    By Fred Langa

Here's how to prevent or correct problems caused by corrupted system files, after a Win10 upgrade. Plus: How to upgrade a Win7 PC stuck in Safe Mode and how to easily add an Edge shortcut/icon or almost any shortcut/icon to your Win10 Desktop.

The full text of this column is posted at windowssecrets.com/langalist-plus/a-win10-upgrade-with-persistent-errors/ (paid content, opens in a new window/tab).

Columnists typically cannot reply to comments here, but do incorporate the best tips into future columns.

Easily add an Edge icon to your Desktop

That's fine if MS Edge is in the Apps list which is not the case on my computer.

Using the 'long-winded' method of creating a desktop item creates a shortcut to Windows Explorer.

I tried dragging a copy of the MS Edge program to my desktop but it will not execute.

Edge is working OK but using Links is the way I access Edge.

Nope. I could not find Edge anywhere except using File Explorer but I could get to it by using 'Links' on the taskbar or by an email link.

    From where?

    File Explorer.

The problem appears to have been resolved with the latest Windows 10 update.

Drag a shortcut to the desktop

Edge worked per Fred's short method on my win 10. And so did some other apps - but ONLY if they were MS apps. None of the other listed apps worked this way.
    I have build 10240 W10 Pro 32 bit
