Windows Live Mail Will Die Without This Update That Cripples It Anyway

I've seen a number of post's concerning problems with Live mail and not sure if anyone else has posted this or not.

Microsoft appears to have released a slightly broken update for its aging Windows Live Mail program, which it claims will allow users to continue using it after changes are made to Outlook, Hotmail, Live and MSN accounts in the near future. Without the update, the program will soon no longer be able to send or receive emails.

However, thereís been a sizable backlash from the programís extensive number of users that have installed the update, with many claiming the update itself breaks the ability to send and receive emails, renders the calendar useless or causes the program to crash.

Comfirm: update has made my email via Windows Live Mail useless. Annoying.

I'm in a similar position, I think the problem is with MS accounts (hotmail, outlook) only.
I forward my MS email accounts to Gmail and get them through Windows Live Mail that way.

I have always had problems with Outlook.com, so I changed, years ago, to IMAP usage for Outlook.com with my email apps:

Use the following settings in your email app (which works just fine with Windows Live Mail 2012).
If your email app doesn’t support Exchange ActiveSync, it might use IMAP. Unlike POP, which only syncs your inbox, IMAP syncs all your email folders.

    Incoming (IMAP) Server
    Server address: imap-mail.outlook.com
    Port: 993
    Encrypted Connection: SSL
    Outgoing (SMTP) Server
    Server address: smtp-mail.outlook.com
Port: 25 (or 587 if 25 is blocked)
    Authentication: Yes
    Encrypted Connection: TLS
    User name: Your email address
    Password: Your password

This works well without the update and even with the update.
