When I was doing more updates on WinXP and the slower 'net connections in my area I would go to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...ils.aspx?id=24 and download the full SP file. Doing it once on my slightly faster connection made things much easier. I would Copy that file onto a client's computer then run it to update. The 'streaming' process works but slow connections are always an issue.

You should have got it through Windows Update anyway.

If the XP install is 64 bit then it won't use SP3 as that is just for XP 32 bit.

You can pre-download all of the updates using the freeware tool WSUS Offline Update...

    http://download.wsusoffline.net/

If I recall correctly, version 9.4.2 was the last version to support XP.

It's located in the Achive section on the right side of the page.

    Good tutorial video...

9.2.1 was the last. Newer and the XP option will not show up in the Legacy tab.

One thing to consider, is that Netbooks are very NON-Standard little PC's with NON-Standard hardware that requires some pretty Proprietary and hard to find Drivers.

I have a Netbook running XP and I've tried several times to upgrade it to a newer OS, but in every case, I had problems with hardware drivers.
Knowing this could be a problem, I made a backup copy of the C: drive on the Netbook, before trying an upgrade, so I could revert back to XP if need be.

As far as upgrading to SP3, that is not a problem, because the SP3 upgrade is very downloadable. It shouldn't take very long to find a copy to download.
I have a copy of SP3 here, that I used years ago, when SP3 first came out. I've upgraded many PC's with that same disk.

If you destroy the original setup on that Netbook and loose the drivers, you may never get them back, and your little Netbook may never work right again.

Good Luck and Happy New Year!

If drivers are an issue they should be sought out for the new OS first. If not found the last resort which often works is the following:

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/20894...n-windows.html

If the resources are not really adequate for a newer OS (4GB RAM min, dual core CPU, at least 2GHz speed/ 3GHz or greater better, reasonable storage space available, then the OP should stick with less resource intensive XP (hardened off for a non-supported OS on the Internet) or switch to Linux.
