    Windows Update.

    Hi Loungers,
For the last few days, clicking 'Check for Updates' never finds any no matter how long it runs when I know some are available.
I tried using a Fix it' from MS & doing a system restore using Acronis.

My next method is:- http://windowssecrets.com/top-story/...ive-reinstall/ When it got to the point to check for installation updates, I did, for ages, then abandoned it and posted this thread.
    I'm using my Laptop.

How do you know missing updates are available for your specific OS and laptop configuration?

You can update and run Belarc Advisor and see if any security updates are currently missing.

If you've confirmed there are missing updates and WU is still not finding them, try the following (the commands can be cut and pasted)...

    1. Open a Command Prompt (Run as Administrator).

    2. Type: cd %windir% and press enter.

    3. Type: net stop wuauserv and press enter.

    4. Type: net stop cryptsvc and press enter.

    5. Type: net stop bits and press enter.

    6. Type: net stop msiserver and press enter.

    7. Type: ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old and press enter.

    8. Type: cd %windir%/system32 and press enter.

    9. Type: ren catroot2 Catroot2.old and press enter.

    10. Type: net start wuauserv and press enter.

    11. Type: net start cryptsvc and press enter.

    12. Type: net start bits and press enter.

    13. Type: net start msiserver and press enter.

    14. Close the Command Prompt window.

    Try running Windows Update again.

Reset the Windows Update Components with this Fixit https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/971058 and then run the System Update Readiness Tool for your version of Windows https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/947821

This will produce a log which you can find at C:\Windows\Logs\CBS and open the Checksur one and if it finds errors, you can copy & paste it.

If it doesn't and Belarc Advisor says you are missing some updates, run Check for updates again and that can sometimes seem never ending.

This can be caused by busy MS servers, so trying at different times may be quicker, or you can just let it run and get on with something else.

Thank you all for your input. Unfortunately I never got notified of your posts. I found somewhere that if I left WU searching for updates for long enough, it would eventually correct it's self & that's exactly what happened.
