Odd display in browser window? (MSIE 5.5)

This happened once before, but I can't remember what was said in regard to this thing. At the very bottom of my browser window, where the URL is normally displayed when you mouseover a link, there now appears this phrase, <font color=blue>"Search the Web - It's fun and it's easy!"</font color=blue>

So, what is this thing.... and how do I get rid of it? <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

It could be a form of 'popup'. I haven't seen this one yet, but I probably will. Get a good popup remover - POW! from www.analogX.com is an excellent one. It's free and real easy to use.

At a guess, somewhere you have visited or some software you've installed has done it.
I'd run a search through your registry for the phrase and see if you can find it.

Does this happen on every link that your mouse hovers over? Website designers can code a URL so that the text they want appears in the status bar at the bottom. If it's happening over every single link though, on different websites.....well....that's just not right.

Yeh, that's a brilliant deduction that it came from somewhere I visited. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> The problem WAS, that I rarely surf the Net; I'm a home body and have enough to do on my own sites. But, yes evidently I did visit some website that slipped that into a cookie or something and I think the owner is a regular visitor/contributor to this board. hehe

Anyway, I did a scan of my Registry and found the little critter, at least it was the only thing in my Registry that had those exact words.. so I assumed it had to be the culprit, and it got deleted immediately. Thus, thanks to all for the input. If I come across this silly thing again, I'll try and remember to where and how I got it and pass it on. <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>... the information that is. <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>
