Flakey WIN 10? Repair installation aborts

A business program that I use on two other WIN 10 PCs with no problems intermittently crashes on this Win 10 Home workstation. I don't use other programs much on this workstation with the exception of my web browser and NetOp remote Control, so hard to say what else could potentially crash. This workstation has had problems with the installation of major updates. Ironically it should be almost virgin as I was forced to install from scratch a while back. Chkdsk, SFC, dism.exe and various hardware burn-in programs all report nothing wrong. So, logging in as administrator I attempted an in-place repair install. (SEVERAL TIMES) I tried it through "Get Windows 10" and also downloading an ISO. Here is the result:

And then: "Window 10 installation failed" at about the first reboot. No other information except the above setuperr log.

The machine has always been named "Service," but is there a problem with that? And, if so, why? But I see other errors in the log which, frankly, I am at a loss to understand.

What does "invalid SQM session" mean? Why is the installation bitching about a printer? I know my way around PCs half-assed, but this is a little overwhelming to me!

I can't even remember what it took to install the major November update, but it wasn't easy! At this time, however, the workstation is up to date.

I guess I will rename the machine which will require fixing network paths and fixing some licenses.

Kind of annoying that the purpose of an in-place repair install is to fix things and if something needs fixing the repair install aborts!

There are a couple of posts that seem to have a fix for invalid SQM sesssion. The "do not save anything" option seems to be the answer.

"Do not save anything" is not very attractive! Might live with it for now if that is the only option. Since the install kept going a little while after the SQM error I don't know if that is even the problem!

Looking at the log I am not sure what actually caused it to abort.

When I am next at the shop i will rename the machine"SERVICEDESK" instead of "SERVICE." But what I don't understand about this is I did a complete new install of Windows 10 with the name "SERVICE."

I do NOT see the message "Something Happened." Not that that's worth a damn thing, anyway!

    Solved!

OK. I renamed my machine from "SERVICE" to "SERVICEDESK" and tried again. Now I was not there to see much of it because I am at home and I operated the PC with remote control. But I was surely encouraged when I couldn't log in for some time. Finally I could and there was no error message! There was also no message that Windows 10 had been refreshed! But I knew it had because it put those annoying arrows back on all my shortcuts, (already removed with WinAero tweaker) and also when I went to look at the update history there was none. So, I say success! Now to see if my automotive shop owner software crashes less.... It doesn't crash on the other two Win 10 stations.

I still don't understand what's wrong with the computer name "SERVICE" and especially when that had been the name all along. I had thought licenses for Norton and the shop owner program --ROWriter were tied to the computer name. Had no problem with Norton, but had to call ROWriter and get a code to reactivate.

It is not essential to understand everything as long as it works!

Some words are classed as reserved words in Windows and can cause confusion when added by an user out of context - that may be why it didn't like you calling something Service.

I always use an alphanumeric name for my laptops which is probably why I added 15 to my forum username out of habit.
