How do I access my old user templates with Office Word 365 aka 16

Wisely or not (but rather forced by some update issues when I lost my old Office update key "chain"), I have subscribed to Office 365. I am now trying to use my old Word templates. Running Win 10.

After reading various suggestions from different sources, I have copied my templates into:
    - %appdata%\Microsoft\Templates
    - c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\STARTUP
    - c:\Users\djhs\Documents\Customer Office Templates

But Word still refuses to offer them in the Open \ New dialogue.

Note that on my system Word does NOT offer a choice between Featured and Personal; it simply lists the presumably featured ones and offers an online search. I understand from various posts that such a choice existed in Word 201x.

I have also looked at Options / Advanced for something about file locations, but no success.

So, please, would some kind Lounger tell me the simple and probably obvious trick that has defeated my aged brain this afternoon..?
How foolish of me to think the Office 365 option would be the least hassle way to overcome my opdate problem!!

    Thank you.

Do not put your user templates in any folder labeled STARTUP! That is for global templates, which is a very different thing.

I'm sure there must be advantages to Click-to-run for the user, but I have not discovered any.

For information on how Word handles template locations for new files, see this page.

    Check your file block options.
File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > File Block Settings
Uncheck everything that you may be using.

    Thank you, Moonshine,
The key to this is in the second item, from Tim Anderson's site itwriting.com (a site previously unknown to me).
That item tells me the reason my templates did not appear; I had not set Default Personal Templates Location in Options / Save
As soon as I did, I saw the Featured or Personal choice appear on File / New and when I selected personal my templates appeared.

    Thank you also Charles Kenyon,
I had seen your document but not spotted or realised how to set the default personal templates location.

So I can now move on.
    Thanks
    David
