My decimal aligned tabs don't align on the decimal

As you know, in MS Word you can align tabs Left, right or on the decimal. The decimal alignment assumes you have numbering.

For quit some time now my decimal alignments stopped aligning on the decimal. Instead they align LEFT, even though I have specified decimal alignment.

This has been happening for a long time and I have tried to correct it but nothing works.

Anyone know what the problem is or how to correct it?

I hate Word tabs, they are anything but intuitive. /rant

You have probably set a decimal tab at point A, but the text is tabbed to point B.

Except in tables, a decimal tab requires that you press the tab key in the body of your document. It can be very helpful to display the screen marks for these in your print view.

Although certainly designed for numbers, decimal tabs align on a full stop (period or decimal point) when there are no numbers. (See screenshot below.)

When you have numbers following pressing the tab key, the number will align on the first non-numeric character (other than the thousands separator).

    Techsmith's Snagit. I think I'm on Version 11 or 12.
