Exchanging a month number to its assigned month name

I have a schedule with a fiscal year starting in JULY, month = 7 as a date. I already separated the month numbers from the dates of service. in another column ( call it MO Column). I need to read the month number ( ie; 7) and have it record July. I will copy the the formula down to write out all the months in the MO Column.

Could this be done. I thought I remembered seeing this but I cannot find it nor do I know what it would be called.

Help, as always, is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Assuming the dates begin in the A2 cell (e.g., 1/28/2016), fill this down in the B column: =TEXT(A2,"mmmm")

The formula works and that's great! However, isn't there a formula that will correspond the month number to the month name automatically??

    MNN,

You can also do something like:
=CHOOSE(A1,"January","Febuary","March","April","Ma y", etc.) where cell A1 is an integer.

    MNN,

    Another approach...
    MNN-Months.PNG

This method just references the cell w/the date and uses a custom date format.

Since I am dealing with fiscal years, I need something to identify the month number or name with the MONTH SEQUENCE of the Fiscal Year. For instance, July starts the Fiscal Year so that would be "MONTH 1" of the fiscal year. August would be "Month 2" January is "Month 7" and May is "Month 11" and so it goes.

I have the fiscal year formula down and that is working properly, but I need to capture the Month Number of the Fiscal Year.

    Any suggestions.

    Thanks

=CHOOSE(A1,"July","August","September","October"," November", etc.) where cell A1 is an integer.

If A1 contains a date you can do this.

    =IF(MONTH(A1)>6,MONTH(A1)-6,MONTH(A1)+6)

    Capture.PNG

    cheers, Paul
