Default Template Storage

Is there a way to change the default folder where normal.dot and other templates are stored for each user that logs into a Windows NT computer?

For one user, in Word: Tools, Options, File Locations, Highlight User Templates, then modify.

The locations are stored in the registry- I'm not sure where. It's possible to modify those locations directly. Our LAN people do it here- but I don't know what tools they use.

We use the users roaming profile. That way they keep their settings if they move from one machine to another. It goes something like C:WINNTProfiles%username%Application DataMicrosoftTemplates. I think it is set in the logon script.

They do it with a *.reg file and they are easy to create by saving out the registry key in question. The reg file can be edited (its just a flat ascii file) and runs automatically any time you open it. It can be used to add registry keys or modify existing ones such as the User Templates location.

The other benefit of using reg files is it gets around TPTB who may want to play god and lock you out of your own registry for the greater good.
