    CD drive continually accessed

My F-drive is a CD-ROM burner drive which has worked perfectly for a year or more. Suddenly I can't use the drive to record any more. I get an error message to the effect that the drive is in use. If I insert a regular CD I can inspect its contents in Explorer. If I insert a blank CD Explorer reports that the drive is in use; the drive's green light is on continuously. What's up doc?

(said with an Elvis drawl) If'n ah had ta guess ah'd say it was all hosed up thar... <img src=/S/hosed.gif border=0 alt=hosed width=73 height=24>

Seriously, it does sound like there is something physically wrong with the drive. Get a DOS floppy with CD-ROM support and see if you can access it from there, to eliminate the possibility that it's Windows.

Try changing IDE cables (if it's IDE) and changing its location in the chain - for example, if it's a master, make it a slave on the other channel. If the problem persists through all your changes, you can be reasonably assured that it's defective. Your warranty might still cover it, check your paperwork.

You are probably using Roxio software. Usually it is a conflict between DirectCD kernel and CD Creator's Project Selector. As a workaround, hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and from Task List | Proceses choose DirectCD and click End Process button.

Maybe someboby else knows a true solution for this problem???

    Re: CD drive continually accessed

Sorry guys, those suggestions appear to be off the mark. The drive works perfectly normally with a regular CD, either sofware, data or audio. But insert a blank CD (and I've tried several brands) for burning and it throws a wobbly with the green light continually showing.
I'm not using Roxio; I'm using WinOnCdD3.7. But the same happens if I engage Plextor CD creation software. I deleted and then re-loaded WinOnCD with the same result. Any further ideas?
