    They may not need it.
The claims are so stupid it sounds more like a publicity stunt to me.

So, if the claim never materializes, BC pockets all those 'fighting fund' donations? Nice little earner...

These sort of things are dangerously counterproductive IMHO to the company suing. I can think of several companies who have angered the PC community who's popular product went into the tank in response to threats of a lawsuit.
    • System Enhancement Associates comes to mind as the first (ARC), predating the WWW (lawsuit settled due to business loss, compression recoding, stripping of all .ARC files off of bulletin boards).
    • Followed by Compuserve/Unisys and GIF (lawsuit averted due to rapid public/BBS dumping of the gif format).
    • Adobe and PDF (stopped pretty quick when they initially were making noises about reclaiming public domain PDF format with PDF2).
    • Lord the copy protection suits and threats of suits/shakedowns by shyster lawyers....

I'm sure there are many other entertaining almosts out there where the suing company pissed off its customer base and soiled its reputation.

I personally think BC will give all collected monies to charities if the lawsuit never materializes.

That'd be charities of the 'charity begins at home' kind, no doubt...

Such cynics To make the record straight, I have clearly stated that all funds not used for legal defense goes to the Electronic Frontier Foundation. That means if Enigma drops the case tomorrow, I make a nice donation.

Since BC is a helpful site, I was sorry to hear they're being sued. My guess is Enigma Software wants to intimidate anyone thinking of giving a negative evaluation of its software--and many have negatively evaluated it.

    CS,

I don't think most email clients, I know Outlook doesn't, support .gif files (at least the animation part). If on the other hand you want to insert it into a forum post just click this iconinsertpic.PNG and navigate to the file.
