Strange behaviour in Edge and IE 11

I was trying to sign into a new medical web portal this morning using a 12 character password. The portal for some reason or another on both Edge, and I.E. 11 would not accept the 12 character password. I then went to Firefox, and was able to login in using that same password. I noticed at least in Edge that the site while showing all 12 characters seemed to be only reading 11 of them. Using Firefox again I changed the password to 10 characters then was able to sign into the portal. Given that I have never experienced this before and that I was able to login using Firefox, do you think that it is more a problem with the web site or Edge and I.E. ?
    Thanks John

It's a web site problem because they limit password length! A pet hate of mine.

If it were a website problem, why would the 12 character password work in Firefox, as stated by the OP?

The website is most likely using scripts to identify the browser. I.e.: if the code in those scripts is not quite right then that could easily explain your inconsistent results.

The most annoying problem of this type was when a website used different validation and/or truncation when registering a password than when checking it on login. It used to occur on several websites - including some large, well-known companies, e.g. ZDNet - although I haven't seen it for a while now.

A few years ago, if you tried to use a long password containing various non-alphabetic characters you almost certainly came across this problem, although you may not have realised exactly what was going wrong as it was a devil to track down in any particular case.
