Out of Office Assistant (Outlook XP)

Is there a way to make the Out of Office Assistant not reply to certain users? I know the assistant does an "autoreply only once to each user", but I am on some discussion lists and do not want to reply at all to this list with an out of office autoreply.

I created a rule to move messages from a certain user to a certain folder, but the out of office reply goes first.

If you're on an Exchange server, in C/W mode, the server can be configured to do so. It cannot be done by the user. Since this is a feature of the Exchange product and not Outlook in and of itself, I don't believe there is a way to pull this off unless some frustrated soul has written a macro to do so.

I know on the Exchange Server you can not allow Out of Office replies at all (in fact this is the default). But is there a way to not sent replies to just certain users?

That is my understanding, yes. This was a few years back the last time I ran into this, and it had to do with a whole group of us getting booted from Russ Cooper's NTBugTraq newsletter because the corporate culture at the (now defunct) Digital Equipment Corporation was a slacker one. In other words, he got an unusually high number of OOR's from our company, and when I queried him on it stated that the Exchange folks surely knew how to stop these replies to certain email addresses. If I remember, it may have been simply to block them from anyone who was not in the Global Address List.

Anyone else have input on how this works server-side?

AFAIK, the server side fix is to prevent them to any internet address - not specific addresses. This as much for security reasons (nothing like telling the world you are in aruba for 2 weeks) as for preventing annoying OOFs to mailing lists.

A friend posted a note to NTBugTrac a few weeks ago and got 100's of OOFs back. She has a filter sending them to the deleted folder and noticed it was growing. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
