Windows 10 laptop webcam stopped working.

Months ago I have upgraded to windows 10 from windows 8.1. Absolutely no problem up until this evening.

As soon as I started to Skype conversation to my daughter I realised that camera was not coming on, no video icon either.

It's a build in camera into my Acer Aspire 6930.

In device manager I can see no camera either.

Device Manager/Hardware changes shows me that "Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

I system restored it to an earlier time but no avail.

I hope you guys can help me please....Thank you

It is behaving like a defective camera.

As a first diagnostic step, do you have (or can you borrow) a USB webcam so you can check out everything but the built-in camera ?

Or do you have any other applications which use the camera, and check it that way ?

That you can not see the camera in Device Manager makes me think that it's one of the often reported driver problems.
Go to support.acer.com and with your computer's model number and Windows version search for a driver.
    You just might get lucky.

Thank you for your answers guys.

In my original post I gave you a wrong info...Sorry.....I have upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10.

    1) I connected an external web cam through USB and it works perfect.
    2) Support Acer.com does not have a driver for Windows 10.

From posts in the Acer Community forum it appears the Acer Aspire 6930 isn't upgradeable to Windows 10 per se, i.e. with supported drivers from Acer. It may well be possible but you'll need to see whether individual hardware manufactures provide updated drivers when Acer don't.

I think the Acer Aspire 6930's CrystalEye webcam has used 2 different CCDs - Bison and Suyin - so you need to work out which CCD it's using first.

    In Device Manager, do this:

    1. Double-click on the 'Unknown USB device' to bring up its Properties.
    2. Select the Details tab.
    3. Change the Property dropdown from the default Device description to Hardware IDs instead.
    4. Post a new screenshot or list the VEN and DEV info... or use the PCI Vendor and Device Lists database to identify the make/model of CCD.

    Hope this helps...

Thank you so much for your post Rick.

Once I found out that it was "Suyin", I searched the web for Suyin Drivers. One thing let to another and ended up downloading it from this page.... http://techrena.net/download-acer-cr...ver-windows-7/ ....and the driver link is.... http://www.techrena.net/downloads/Ac...Win7x86x64.zip .......Everything is working absolutely fine now. Thanks again guys.......Mind you, one does wonder, why it has stopped working all of a sudden?
