Monitor goes off every 8 seconds

I have a Dell ST2420L monitor 2 years old. After turning system on the monitor works ok for about a half hour and then will go black for 2 seconds every 8 seconds. I tries a different monitor and it is good. Could there be another cause than the monitor being shot?

    None that I can imagine.
Sounds to me as if something in the monitor after half an n hour gets quite slowly too hot, a thermo fuse blows, cools off and turns on again in a steady rhythm.

As an additional test, plug the questionable monitor into a known good pc, to see if the problem continues. If that same monitor continues to have the problem, then you know that it's the monitor.

Here is something I found in the userguide for this monitor:

    Monitor turns on & off
    * Ensure that the video cable connecting the monitor to the computer is connected properly and is secure.
    * Reset the monitor to Factory Settings.
    * Perform monitor self-test feature check to determine if the intermittent problem occurs in self mode.

Thanks for the suggestions...I did a factory reset and it has been good for a half hour...Hopefully that's the end of it.
