    Use SEQ Field as a bookmark

    I have a SEQ Field on some tables within my doc.

    {SEQ Table1 \n}

    When populated it looks like Table 1.1.

    I would like to now use the SEQ Field as a bookmark within a paragraph which references the Table

    In the paragraph, I now add a Quick Part formula to reference the book mark.

    Instead of the bookmark showing as Table 1.1. it shows only as 1.1

    Is there a trick to this or another way to reference the bookmark with the paragraph to not only have the SEQ Field show up, but also the text which is part of the bookmark?

    You would need to bookmark the word 'Table' and the following SEQ field. Your cross-reference to the bookmark would then display 'Table 1.1.', etc.

    Thanks Paul. I was trying to add a quick parts >> field >> formula >> Paste bookmark, but this only show the SEQ field part.

    Using the cross-reference instead does the trick.

    Is there a logical reason why the quick parts >> field >> formula >> Paste bookmark will only show the SEQ field and not the entire bookmark?

    That is, with the text included?

    The reason is simple enough: If you use Insert>Quick Parts>Field>Formula>Paste bookmark, the formula evaluates whatever is bookmarked as a number. What you need is a reference to the bookmark, which is what you get via Insert>Cross Reference, not a formulaic evaluation of the bookmark.

    This particular SEQ field could have been produced by References > Insert Caption.

    Try inserting a Cross-Reference (also on the References tab).

    That may work even if you manually created the SEQ field.

    Captions won't produce the numbering sequence required by the OP (e.g. Table 1.1. - note the final period) . In any event, as per http://windowssecrets.com/forums/sho...field-thru-VBA, captions aren't being used.
