Question on installing a new switch

    Hi
I want to install a new switch on my network. There are 14 computers. After I install the new hardware, will I have to reboot any of the computers that are running? I have one computer that I do not want to shut down and it has a static IP address. Will it just reconnect to the network when I plug it in? Or is there an IP command to reset the connection so I don't have to reboot?

    Thanks very much

Do you have a domain? If you do not, and if all computers are running Windows, then you won't have to reboot anything. If you are on a domain, then I'm not sure, but I don't think you will have to in that case either.

If it is just a switch you do not need to do anything except plug it in.
If it is a router then all bets are off and you may need to change things - although a simple network will still work, without change / reboot, if the router has the same defaults as the old one.

    cheers, Paul

Right, I added an 8-port Switch to my Router with 4 ports, plugged the computers in and good to go.
