When you've downloaded Vivaldi, you can install the browser over any existing version you may have. you can also create a snapshot to retain a stable version and isolate the browser from further updates that being tested. Your bookmarks, extensions and other preferences will be retained. If you check the version is shown as (1.0.435.40) 32-bit. There is a 64-bit version (experimental).

update to Vivaldi. You should be notified of this automatically by the browser. The full version number is now 1.0.435.42. More about this update here:

not any more... you are quite correct to ask the question. as i was caught out as I still using version 1.0 which was new to me. within a day vivaldi issued the update 1.1 which is now the newest download.

for those who want a stand-alone version. vivaldi

To create a Standalone version, download the file, open it. Click the 'Advanced' button and Make sure that the Destination Folder is different from that of your existing version of Vivaldi - click 'Browse' to find a suitable location - and that you select 'Install standalone' from the drop-down menu by 'Installation type'.

Once you've done that, click 'Accept and Install' and you should have 2 separate versions successfully installed on your PC!
