Are you smarter than a 7th grader?

In a class, 1/8 of the boys and 1/4 of the girls play the piano.
Three times as many girls as boys play the piano.
If there are 100 children in the class, how many boys play the piano?

I am not smarter than a 7th grader.

8th, 9th, and even 6th, yes smarter than all of those. Only for 7th am I not smarter.

I wonder how many 7th graders would solve this using Excel? Hmmm.

    Since B+G = 100 and B/8 = piano playing boys and G/4 =piano playing girls,
    and that (G/4) = 3(B/8), B + (3B/2) = 100; 2.5B = 100 and B = 40. Therefore, 40/8 = 5 boys.

None, because they wouldn't know how!
