Troublesome Windows fixes and revisiting WinZip

    By Tracey Capen

On Win7 and Win8.1 systems, blocking the Windows 10 upgrade can be an annoying and ongoing task.

And, two new versions of WinZip go far beyond simple file/folder compression and encryption.

Very frankly, I am losing my patience. Again two unrelated but important subjects under one heading so comments to either get mixed up up in one big mess.

Hey, is any body listening at the WS Lounge?

My comment here refers to "Proof Microsoft won’t take ‘no’ for an answer":

Who in their sound mind expected anything else? Good, old tricky Micro$oft is alive and kicking.

I think another $10 donation to the Ultimate Outsider is adequate. Don't know who that is? Come out from under your rock and let GWX Control Panel shine on you ;-)

"Bottom line: As with all "Win10-compatibility" patches, KB 3150513 can be ignored if you have no plans to upgrade a Win7 system to Win10." Yes, but is it safe to uninstall this KB and the other three mentioned (KB 2977759, KB 2952664, and KB 2976978)?

I am running W7 in a virtual machine and that seems to block the upgrade because it doesn't pass the upgrade test (video adapter). I can upgrade by downloading the iso, but I don't have to bother with any of the rest of it. I am using VMWare Workstation but player is free.

I jettisoned WinZip years ago when they went to a bizarre licensing model. 7-Zip is the way. Current WinZip pricing is abusive. I'm surprised they are still around.

    Another annoyance from the article:

"I'll admit that I haven't use WinZip for a while — in most cases, the free 7-Zip (site) fit my needs. But today's WinZip is a far more comprehensive tool then 7-Zip."

Why has proper grammar become an optional skill?

    haven't used
    fits my needs
    'than', not 'then'.

Does proofreading exist? Is there an editor? Three simple grammar mistakes in one sentence. This is a paid product/subscription.

I agree. I saw the mistakes as I stumbled to read the sentence.

    BTW: You misspelled "grammar".
