    I need the code to include the last modified date & user on the header/footer of a document. In excel terms for file you use &File

    Thanks

    Mario, for once Word is a step ahead of Excel. Word uses "field codes" (look this up in help), so {AUTHOR} and {DATE} are probably what you want.

    Try this:
    1. <LI>View > Header and Footer
      <LI>Insert AutoText, Author, Page #, Date
      <LI>Press <ALT><F9>
    You can get fancier with ones like {PRINTDATE}. Use the Insert, Field menu to see all of your choices for field names. HTH --Sam

    The basic code is pretty straight forward, but because of the formatting options, it's probably better to use the menus:

    View / Headers and Footers
    Insert / Date and Time, Select the desired format and make sure to mark the "Update automatically" box and click OK.
    Insert / Field
    From list on the left select "User information"
    From list on right select User name -- You can change format (all caps, etc) by clicking on Options.

    Re: Modify User/Date (Word 2000)

    Did some more studing on useful field codes for headers, especially using the DOCPROPERTY field. You can wrap the DOCPROPERTY field in an IF to avoid an error message:
    { IF {DOCPROPERTY ApprovalDate} = "Error! Unknown document property name." "" {DOCPROPERTY ApprovalDate} }
    Very cool!

    Also, to see all of the names that can be used in the DOCPROPERTY field, use the Insert | Field menu, then click on DocProperty in the Field names listbox, then click the Options button. This list is dynamic: if you add a custom document property, it is added to the dialog box.
