    Windows Defender Offline - Broken

    Hey Y'all,

I case you haven't noticed WDO no longer works. I just downloaded the program on two different machines to two different USB stick.

When booted they both say the Definitions are out of date and will not allow you to run a scan.

I used the Update tool and verified that the USB was updated but still the same behavior.

Were these Win10 machines? WDO is builtin to Win10.

Did you make sure that the WDO bittedness matches the OS?

    Joe,

Yes 64 Bit all around. BTW the baked in WDO for Win 10 is only in the Latest Insider release as of now.

Last several Insider Releases. But yes, not available to general public until Anniversry release. Probably available to Slow Ring insiders by now.

Wonder if changes made to include in Win10 broke WDO for older OSes?

Ran into the same thing with WDO just last night.

I first tried running from CD, but it complained about not having the latest definition files, and couldn't download them.

This morning, I created a USB version, and it also failed to download any update files - telling me to check the internet connection, same as last night.

This doesn't make a lot of sense, because it seems that the latest defs files would be included in the building process of either the CD/DVD or USB versions.

That should obviate the need to check for updates.

P.S. I tried to run on WiFi first, then connected via ethernet after it failed running WiFi. That didn't work, either.
