Hyperlinks to files (97, 2000, XP)

when using hyperlinks in word to 'non-office' file types a dialog frequently
will pop up with 'Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to
your computer. It is important to be certain that this file is from a
trustworthy source. Would you like to open this file? OK/Cancel'.
This behavior is not entirely restricted to 'office' file types but seems to
be controlled by whether or not ?Windows/Explorer? recognizes the file
extension as one it deems safe from viral attack (when outside of the
'office' file types - which are definitely not safe, but apparently
    nonetheless exempted from the prompt)
The question would be - how would one add a particular file extension(s) to
the 'safe list', so that for that file type the dialog box would not appear.
I am guessing that it would be a registry setting.
I am using Office97 Pro, 2000, and XP, on Win98SE, Me, and XP OS's; so
please include in answer (if known), solution for all the above.

    Thanks
    Danny

Unfortunately, it is not a registry settings, but one of Office DLLs (Dynamic Link Library files) controls OpenLink dialog box. You can do nothing about it, unless you will alternate Microsoft code...

    Try this:
