Does blocking Win10 upgrade stop updates for Win8.1?

Some time ago I installed the GWX10 Control Panel program (after reading about it on Window Secrets and other web sites) to block automatic upgrade to Win10 after reading about it that happening and people not being able to stop it. I assume GWX10 works so far. my question is: Is my system (Win 8.1) still receiving necessary updates especially to be current and secure?

    abenglen,

If you use GWX Control Panel it will actually block the Win 10 update so you can get the Win 8.1 updates! Funny but true.

I have W8.1 and GWX. Update work as expected - I have the latest patches ready to install.

    cheers, Paul

I thought it probably did work OK, but don't know where/how to check. Thanks.

I have Win 8.1 and I installed GWX and I couldn't install ANY updates of any kind without Win 10 automatically installing! I even had to turn off my pc when I tried manually installing a couple of updates, as Win 10 still tried to auto-load.

Hopefully, now that the "free" Win 10 time period is over, I can install almost a years worth of updates.

I've been running GWX10 foe several months now on a Windows 7 Pro machine and have always received all the remaining updates. This month however I receive an error window advising me that a problem occurred when accessing the download site. No updates can be accessed.

Hopefully this will correct itself for the August update programme?

In August there should be no further need for the GWX program

Well, I've got the same issues , there's an automatic windows free install that pops up on my window most of the time. I also want to block it because I'm reluctant to install win 10. It might cause me problems if my device or hardware is not compatible. By the way, what I usually do is to ignore it.

Download and run Never10 or GWX Control Panel. This will prevent the upgrade and remove the upgrade notification.

    cheers, Paul
