    Recurring daily (Logitech) driver update

    This problem was previously discussed for a daily Samsung driver update in the post "Windows 10 Update weirdness" by High Sierra, but the suggestions provided did not work.

    Every day since May 13, 2016, Windows update has been reinstalling the same "Logitech - WebCam - Webcam C170" driver. I cannot find any way to stop it.

    Device manager says the drivers are working correctly, the properties/driver details for the audio says "No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device," and the "Imaging devices" webcam properties/driver details box shows two MS drivers (ksthunk.sys and usbvideo.sys).

    The video and sound/mic both work fine in Skype (which is all I use the webcam for).

    Windows Update installed Cumulative Update KB3156421 on May 11 and Update KB3152599 on May 12. All the "normal" W10 updates, Flash updates, and the monthly Malicious Software Removal Tool have installed normally through June 17 (Flash security update).

    The Logitech update does not appear in the Control Panel list of installed updates reached via the "Uninstall updates" link on the "View Your Update History" settings page. Only MS updates and the latest Flash (June 17) update are listed from 26-Nov-15 through 17-Jun-16, even though the settings page shows a Flash update on May 11.

    Anyway, as High Sierra said on June 5, it's weird. Fortunately, it has not affected the operation of the webcam and mic.

    The MS audio and video drivers shown in Device Manager have different dates. The mic is 29-Oct-15, and the video is 21-Jun-06. Both offer update driver, disable, and uninstall options, but I don't want to experiment without some expert advice.

    Hopefully some will be forthcoming . . .

    I don't have the answer but I've had the same issue with Windows update and a Canon printer fax update, not only in Windows 10 but previously in Windows 7. In my case, it wasn't daily but it happened with almost every Tuesday update. I gave up trying to find the solution; it was easier just to let WU install and reinstall it with every batch of updates.

    It didn't seem to affect the use or function of my printer. It was just a bizarre annoyance.

    This really is bizarre, isn't it? Three different drivers installing non-stop and annoying three Canadians (New Brunswick, Ottawa, and an ex-pat in Slovenia). And who says Microsoft isn't tracking us?

    I eventually reinstalled Win 10 from scratch because of other issues. See my post about Camera not recognized. I was also having issues with Microsoft store apps stopped working.

    The fresh install seems to have cured all these issues.

    Note that I haven't reinstalled all the programs I used, just the ones I need. I am also now using a local account.

    I suspect that the problems all derived from upgrading from Windows 7. Must have been some incompatibility with something on my Win 7 system, although is was a fairly fresh setup.

    Possibly the plethora of problems is related to your original upgrade, but for what it's worth, my recurring update of the Logitech driver only started after the Win 10 updates of May 11 and 12.

    For what it's worth:
    Since an "in-place upgrade/reinstall" doesn't take an extremely long time, and can be performed repeatedly, IMHO it is often the quickest way to solve peculiar Windows 10 problems. The re-upgrade tries to retain all your installed applications.
    I usually do a clean install only if the "in place" does not solve an issue. (I'm lazy and so do not relish the idea of re-installing a bunch of applications.)
