File Server Resource Management Quota Notification: Exchange Alternatives?

Title is pretty self-explanatory. Trying to setup a quota notification for a volume on our internal server - Using Windows Server 2012, Server Manager v6.1.7601.17514. However, our operation is small, and thus, we do not have Exchange. The Microsoft help sites indicate that "if you don't have Exchange, Windows Server cannot send email notifications" (paraphrasing) regarding quotas you create. I'd guess as much that this is the case, as the "fields" for entering any email information seem pretty basic, and would thus imply a correlation with the existing Exchange service to work.

Is there any way to get email notifications from Window Server Manager regarding these quotas besides using Exchange?

    Thanks in advance!

This article suggests you can use any email server, so install a free server on the server to send emails.
