    Dropbox free space

I've been asked by my U3A* Computer Group to give a brief talk about using the cloud. Although I have accounts with the usual suspects, I don't use them for more than giving friends and relatives links to various files (mainly photos) rather than emailing them. However, in investigating Dropbox I find I have 50Gb of free space. Everything says you get 2Gb of free space, but you can get more by doing various things - most of which I have no recollection of doing (e.g. I don't have Twitter or Facebook accounts). So how have I got this amount and does anyone else have far more than they expected?

Please, no comments about whether it's a good idea or not, I just want facts about what's available for my U3A group members.

I remember signing up for Dropbox when I first got my Android phone and have never used it since! (I've just confirmed my email address lol)

A quick look at it shows that I have 2 GB of storage so that would seem to be the initial allocation.

    Access,

My D.B. account shows 2.2Gb of space. I remember doing some task to get the additional .2Gb but for the life of me can't remember what.
So I'd go with the 2Gb of free space on initial setup.

Well I still seem to have 50Gb

Not sure whether this is a mistake or whether I should take advantage of it. Mind you, having Office 365 I have 1Tb of Onedrive space anyway....

Well I am a grandfather, so maybe that's it.

Or not as the case may be!

Dropbox does offer additional space for setting up a phone to automatically upload pictures and for referrals, but it's only a small amount of additional space per (like 500mb).

At one time, they had Pro (paid) accounts with something like 25, 50, 100GB allowances. It's possible that you had one of those. Are you sure you don't get billed a small amount each month/year charged to a credit card?

Graham, never did set up my phone like this, and I certainly never paid for more space. It's not on any of my accounts (I check them assiduously every month). So it remains a mystery....

Perhaps you are a member of someone else's Dropbox cloud, and THEY have paid for the additional space?
