    Gmail & Thunderbird

Capture.GIFI can send from Gmail to another address and receive OK.
From a different address, can send to Gmail, but can not download the message. See below:

    Settings are:
IMAP server, server name: imap.google.com port 993
    user name: myname@gmail.com
    security: SSL/TLS
    authentication: normal password

    outgoing server: SMTP
    server name: smtp.googlemail.com port 465
    security: SSL/TLS
    authentication: normal password

    Any ideas ?
    Carl,

I concur with your settings for Gmail IMAP on Thunderbird (version 45.2.0)

I have no problems receiving all my Gamil with these settings.

All I can suggest is to try reinstalling Thunderbird.

I noticed that my settings differ slightly from yours. In the outgoing server I have smtp.googlemail.com port 587.

Have you gone into your gmail settings online and confirmed (under "Forwarding and POP/IMAP") that IMAP is enabled?

    No, not really.

But a question anyway: What the h***k is it good for to use thunderbird with Gmail in IMAP setup?

Why don't you go through a (good!) browser with ad-blocker and handle Gmail as it is intended to be handled?

What added value do you perceive from IMAP Gmail in Thunderbird? Only asking...

Thunderbird is an installable program on the computer. My Gmail is strictly online but I could use Thunderbird to download the messages to my computer if desired which then requires IMAP or maybe POP3 settings, same for other installable E-Mail Clients such as Microsoft Outlook, IncrediMail, Eudora, SeaMonkey E-Mail, etc.
