    Auto numbering rows

    Is there a formula/macro to have rows automatically renumber after rows are added and/or deleted from a spreadsheet? I generate route sheets with rows of names and addresses for my boss's lawn treatment business. There are four treatments a year for each town and the names and addresses change accordingly. Currently I am dragging the numbers down the column to automatically renumber after adding and deleting rows of names and addresses. (25 names and addresses per sheet) Some towns are only one sheet, so it's not a big deal. But a few towns generate 11 or 12 sheets so it would be nice to not have to go back and renumber everything from the beginning by re-dragging the numbers down the column.

    This should do what you want:

    =ROW()-2

    The above assumes that the first instance of the formula is in ROW 3, change as appropriate.

    Now when you insert rows all the numbers will change accordingly you just need to copy the formula into the new rows.
