    Printers -- Inkjet versus Laser

I don't print much regularly, but every two to three months I need to print a lot. The problem is I find that my inkjet cartridges often get dried out over the lengthy period of non-use. Would a laser printer be better at sitting out that period of time or doesn't it matter? Many thanks, WinC2001

With inkjets, I always recommend banging off a couple of test pages once a week as part of routine maintenance.

    WINC2001,

I've let my Brother Laser sit for months at a time (when we traveled in our motor home) and when I got home it started up and printed w/o a problem. As always YMMV!

Of course my wife's HP Inkjet was a whole nother' story!

A laser is definitely better at sitting for a long period of non use and continuing to print well. That said, my Canon Pixma MX892 using cheap third party ink prints well after sitting for a month or two. I only use it when I want color or want to print from my or the wife's Ipad. My Laserjet is my primary printer.

    Ditto.

We don't print much, to the degree that the spare laser cartridges I get with each printer usually outlast the printer--ie when I need more toner, it's typically been cheaper to upgrade the printer than to buy replacement toner. Gotta love the razor blade economics of the home printing world!

    Lugh,

I been using Linkyo cartridges in my Brother HL-5450DN with great success. I usually pay about $25 per on Amazon. HTH
