How do you want to open this file?
That message is often on the screen when I return to the PC, so I have no idea what initiates it.
I used to happen in Windows 8.1 and still happens in Windows 10.
What could be the cause?
Also, when I right click on, for instance, a JPG icon, one of the options is Open with, but the option of selecting 'always use this program', or whatever it said in Win 8.1, is no longer offered. Can this be reinstated in Win 10's options?

The cause is usually MS trying to get you to beta test something new.
The real question should be: what's happening while you're away to trigger the opening of *something*?
