2.5 Ghz band is suddenly slow with Windows 10, 5 Ghz is fast

I have a dual band router, Netgear R6300.
I typically use the 2.5 Ghz connection since my printers and scanners are connected to it.
My Acer laptop running Windows 10 gets about 40 Mbps on both 2.5 and 5.0 Ghz connections, Cox is my ISP.

About a week ago, my speed on the 2.5 Ghz connection dropped to 1 Mbps or less. The 5.0 Ghz connection is still running at 40 Mbps.

All my other laptops running Windows 7 and Windows 10, as well as tablets, iPads etc. are getting 40 Mbps on both the connections, so the problem is with my laptop.

I have installed all Windows updates.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the wifi drivers.
I have updated the wifi drivers from the Acer web site.
I have no anti virus other than Windows Defender.
I have no 3rd party security software or firewalls etc.
I have 450 GB free on the hard drive.
The router firmware is updated and current.

    Appreciate any suggestions!!!!

You need to confirm that it's the network / router and not your laptop.
Copy a file between your machines using Robocopy and that will give you a local network speed measurement.
    1. Find some large files - several GB.
    2. Open a Command Prompt.
    3. Type the Robocopy command line: robocopy c:\directory_of_large_files \\other_laptop\share\temprary_directory
Obviously you need to change the names above.
    4. Report back.

    cheers, Paul

Do you have AMD Quick Stream installed on that machine or AVG Web Tune Up as they can affect speeds.

Have you tried changing the WiFi channel?

    It could be local interference.

It would seem that the problem has very little to do with the router since another laptop 6 inches away connects fine at 50 Mbps, the problem laptop connects at less than 1 Mbps.

Have you tried a cold boot on the problem laptop?
Create a fresh drive image before making system changes, in case you need to start over!
