    Asustor 6204t nas

I'm not sure if this the correct forum but didn't see one for NAS devices. Has anyone implemented an ASUSTOR 6204T and if so...what are your thoughts on it?

    Thanks

    Kevin

That looks like an attempt at "all things to all people". What did you want to do with a NAS and have you considered using an old(er) PC with a RAID controller and NAS software (FreeNAS, etc).

    cheers, Paul

Essentially, to keep all data files in a single place (allowing easy access from any PC in the house), automate PC backups, push MP3 etc to my family room home theater system. I really have no desire to have an older, larger PC in the office (I'm pretty short on space as it is) or fight with a variety of differing software installs.

My HP EX495 is pretty small. The 6204T is slightly bigger.

Can't say about that make/model but I have 2 2TB WDC NAS MyCloud HDDs plugged into my Router. Didn't install any software and my computers can Map them. I access them with Linux Mint, Mac OS X and Win7 and Win10. Don't have a Win8 anymore having done the Upgrade to Win10. When mapping Windows assigns drive letters beginning with Z by default and working back up the alphabet. They do not show in Disk Management

    Thanks Berton,

My current server drives do not show in disk management either (but are fine in File Explorer and Freee Commander XE). I am thinking of 4 * 4TB drives in the 6204T using RAIDS 1 or 5 (haven't decided that yet). That should keep me going for a while. The 6204T also has built-in data encryption.
