Your Windows 10 Activation Questions, Answered

I found this on Woody's site.
Paul Thurrott found documentation on MS activation rules. So far you can still activate a W7/8 upgrade to W10.
All in all it makes things a bit more clear on all the activation rules for W10.

Last month I had a motherboard replaced in a Win 7 laptop which I eventually managed to upgrade to Win 10.

Factory resetting it when I got it back, I noticed that the Part and Serial numbers had changed to that of another model, but everything seemed to work except for intermittent problems with the wireless adapter and this became more prevalent after AU.

This may or not be because of probably the wrong motherboard being fitted, but it's going back in.

As the machine needs to be factory reset and probably another mobo change, I contacted MS because I was wondering if I would still qualify for the free upgrade and they said it wouldn't be a problem as that activation which is mentioned in the article, would be going on for another month.

Sounds like a deadline ( maybe ). Since they haven't hit 1 Billion yet, who knows how long it could stretch out.

I created a new installation thumb drive last night using the Media Creation Tool and used it tonight to upgrade a Windows 7 Home to Windows 10 Home version 1607.
The process still worked like a charm! It's activated with a digital license.
