    Outlook 2002 Passwords not saved (10.3513.3501 SP-1)

I have a group of Toshiba Tecra 8200 laptops with WinXP Pro and Outlook 2002 that will not save the e-mail passwords for the ISP even when the box is checked. The MS KB article Q290684 only addressed the issues with Win98 and Win 2K. Additionally Internet explorer will not save passwords either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

when you say internet explorer won't save them, do you mean the dialer passwords or web site passwords?

for outlook2002, follow the steps for win98 if you are an admin. if not, you'll need to right click on the key and do the permissions thing the win2k instructions mention.

    MaryJ,
Neither the Outlook ISP e-mail passowrds nor the Internet Explorer site passwords are saved even though I am prompted for them. The dialer itself will save them.
    Thanks,

    Update,
I have determined that this issue is only in a specific User Profile. In the other profiles (Administrator & Guest) Outlook will save the e-mail password and Internet Explorer will also save web site passwords. The dialer still remembers the ISP login password.
    Any ideas?
    TIA
    Mike

    there is a KB article about this - <A target="_blank" HREF=http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q290/6/84.asp>Q290684 </A>

if you are using winxp, you need to more or less follow the win98 instructions but fix the permissions on the keys.

also - the key you delete (either named username or data, depending on the OS) holds all your passwords and autofill entries for IE and other applications. you may want to try deleting the branch that mentions outlook password manager first, if that doesn't help, then delete the full branch.

    THANK YOU MARYJ,
You've managed to save my sorry hide once again. The solution to the problem was to delete the contents of "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftProtected Storage System Provider". Outlook and IE 6 recreate the contents after startup if it is missing and all works as it should. This solved the same issue on a dozen or so laptops with different images.
Boss thinks I may be worth keeping now.
    Thanks Again,
