    KB3189866 stuck at 46% download.

Was stuck at 46% (left 2 hours and then came back and still stuck at 48% so and rebooted; now 46%). Did a quick online search and apparently I'm not the only one with this issue. Hate to manually download and install this update but if push comes to shove, I'll give that a try. Any of you guys having similar issues?

    Update:

Manually downloaded the update; it was a freaking 531MBytes. I've noticed that huge sized updates in the past had issues w.r.t. Win10 and I now suspect this is still the case. Based on problems that I read elsewhere (and the solution posted there to manually install the update) I did the right thing. Not hard; just a pain. This issues will a lot of folk not be happy campers. Microsoft should have figured a way to lower the size of all such updates since it causes many a lot of conniptions.

    KB3189866: " Cumulative update for Windows 10 Version 1607: September 13, 2016 "

Is downloading on my Toshiba P300 laptop (Win10Homex64").

"Downloading updates" has now been stuck on 49% for the past 20-or-so minutes.

Will re-post with further results later.

Mine seemed to be stuck at 95% for quite a while which seemed unusual for Win 10 and while I suspected it could be because of the size of an update, I opened a cmd prompt admin and entered -

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop bits

    ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    net start wuauserv

    net start bits

    exit

After a restart, it quickly found the updates again and while it quickly got up to 90%, it slowed but crept towards 100% which included some updates that weren't listed first time around.

Further to my #3 post above "Downloading updates" has now been stuck on 49% for <>45 minutes w/ no activity indicated by the lights on my modem/router (10Mbps ADSL2+).

I'm giving up w/ Win10 WU and will download the latest ISO using the MCT (see my #25 post at http://windowssecrets.com/forums/sho...=1#post1066851 ).

    Edit: 6:50PM 14 September 2016
WU (on the Win10Homex64 laptop) is still stuck at 49%, so it appears Win10's WU system is broken. Have had similar problems previously which were solved by downloading the latest "Media Creation Tool" to an 8GB USB Thumdrive then running "setup.exe" from that drive.

Sorry Tom, but already tried using Win7/Win8 WU reset commands w/ no change. Still halts at 49% when trying to download/install KB3189866 on the Win10Homex64 (Toshiba P300 laptop) system (WU on that system is still stuck at 49% "Downloading updates" so I seriously doubt the problem has anything to do with the system's WU settings - rather it seems to be some strange problem w/ M$'s server settings similar to the many "slow updates" problems reported by Win7 users during the past few months).

After about 2 hours it is still stuck on 49%, but download of the MCT via my Win10Prox64 is now up to 62%. I'll stick with the MCT method.

It could well be their servers as it's patch week for Win 7 etc. as well.

I have two Win 7 laptops I have to sort out yet, but they can wait.

EDIT - It will be interesting to see what version the MCT gives you considering it didn't give the AU for someone else.

In previous use of the MCT it did allow me to upgrade both Win10ProX64 and Win10Homex64 to the "AU" version and later install further "cumulative updates". [I]I.e[/I.]: my Win 10Prox64 system is currently "Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.105)" which I think is the latest available.

The current problem is specific to the Win10Homex64 system on my Toshiba P300 laptop which halts downloading at 49% - after <> 2.5hr it is still "Downloading updates" 49%.

The Win10Homex64 Toshiba P300 laptop is not a "production" system, and I have created system images at each system change so can easily revert if necessary - but I am really wondering why WU in such a recent version of M$'s latest OS should malfunction so seriously as I have described above??? C'mon, 49% of less than 600MB downloaded after 3+hr and the first 49% downloaded in less than an hour? Please explain if I am mistaken.

    That is excessive.

It would seem that I didn't actually have a problem and what seemed like sticking was purely down to the size of the update.

I've had a few more updates since I was last on the forum but they were just Office Compatibility Service packs and one for Silverlight which didn't require a restart.

Have you disabled your AV program or rebooted to see if that makes a difference.

Microsoft must have felt sorry for me after breaking the Wifi on my fast ring PC as this installed quite happily on my Tablet (release preview ring) which is now at build 14393.187.

I had eight updates for W10 this morning, of which kb3189866 was one. I also had the fail to install problem. The solution was to install all the other updates first and then install kb3189866. It installed without a problem. Possibly the sequence that Windows was trying to install the patches in was causing the problem.
I used Windows Update Mini Tool, which allows you to select what updates to download and what order to install them in.

I think you hit on something Calimanco. On ver. 1511 yesterday it kept hanging for quite some time as it tried the cumulative update KB3185614 first but then ended up installing it next to last.
It took 1 hr. and 25 mins. to finally reboot and finish the installation. It would seem that the sequence was off.
    1- KB3188128 ( Flash Player )
    2- KB3181403 (Updt for 1511 )
    3- KB3161102 (Win Journal Removal )
    4- Mal Rem Tool
    5- KB3185614 Cum. Updt for 1511( Build 10586.589 )
    6- KB3182373 ( Silverlight updt )

Woody shows a "fix" for the issue with KB3189866 by using the Windows Update Catalog.
