What Just Happened to My Start Menu (After the Most Recent Windows Update)?

    Here's a pic:

Previously, I had the stuff that I've circled hidden, but I can't figure out to hide it again.

Any help? I suspect the setting is simple, but after Googling for 15 minutes, I thought I'd ask you all.

    Thanks so much!

It's a new feature with no on/off switch:

What's new in the Start Menu for Windows 10 Anniversary Update

(You'll see from the comments that you're far from the only one who thinks Microsoft should have left it alone.)

If you got to a full screen start you get what I think is a better start menu. Try it and see - you can always revert if you don't like it. The only thing is that I've had to remove the transparency as having a picture behind it can make it difficult to read. You can see this further down Bruce's link.

As I've always used a full screen start, what was it that got removed that you circled?
What was the greatest thing before sliced bread?

Thanks, access-mdb. Full-screen start is intriguing, but the black background, as opposed to transparency, makes the menu items easier to see. Here's hoping Microsoft adds an on/off setting for the old menu. Thanks.
