    Secunia PSI Application

Last time I read Windows Secrets years ago (I've just now signed back up to get back into reading Windows Secrets) the editors mentioned a program called "Secuina PSI" that allowed me to scan my computer to see if all my programs were up-to-date.

I'm having trouble finding the program now when I search for it. Is this tool still around, and if so, can someone direct me to the download link for it?

    Thanks!

It is still around. Secunia has been acquired by Flexera. See Personal Software Inspector.

NOTE: An email address and name are required to download from their site. You can find it at other download sites like majorgeeks if you don't want to disclose that information.

I found I did not use the program after a while. It seemed to tell me about versions of software imbedded in other programs that I did not have a way to update and no way to tell the program to ignore. I also did not care to be told about end-of-life programs every time PSI was run.

There are other alternatives that give you total control over which ones to update and which ones to leave alone. I think FileHippo still has such a utility. There are more.

Thanks for the download link and the info about the email address requirement. I'll check it out and decide if I still want to use it or not. I have most of my programs set to auto-update anyway, so I'm not sure if I really need to use it.

PSI hasn't really been updated in more than four years (version 3.0.0 since June 2012).

I've been using it for a number of years and it alerts you if there is an update available. I don't use it to update though since it takes longer than going to the site and getting the update. Anything that is End of Life, I just right click and choose ignore ( like the older Photoshop that I have ). One thing that I like is that it sometimes finds an update that doesn't show up when you run an application ( example: VLC ).

Sounds good. I'll re-evaluate it and see if it's something I want to keep in my toolbox of Windows utilities. I know Windows Secrets talked it up years ago when I was last a subscriber to the free newsletter, but I wasn't sure if it was even still going on when I couldn't find it. :-)

Here's the Release History. 3.0.0 was released June 2012. Since then there have been quite a few maintenance releases in 2012 & 2013 but only one in 2014 and one in 2015 with none so far in 2016. Doesn't appear to be to much development activity.

Ver. 3 isn't nearly as slow as the previous versions ( at least on my computers ).

On my Win 10 Pro 1511 system, Version 2 completes a scan of 125 programs in less than 1 minute.

That is not slow in my opinion.

I prefer the user interface of Version 2 over Version 3.

Just to clarify: Version 2 took forever to launch after clicking the icon. Version 3 launches much faster and ( personally ) I like the interface as well or better than 2. To each his/her own.
I have it on W7 Pro and haven't put it on my W10 Pro yet.

I've used PSI for quite a few years and like it. But today in the 9/22/2016 Windows Secrets email it now recommends that PSI be removed since its last update was 12/3/2015 and PSI seems to be dead.

If you go to the section of the Lounge titled "Windows Secrets Columns" and look at the comments on Tracey Capen's article you will find that some readers (me included) think that the reports of the death on Secunia PSI are a bit premature.
