    Watchdog

Anybody run into this freaking Virus? What a pain in the butt. Had to go back to Win 8.1 because i didnt backup after upgrading to Win 10 when it was free. Now i cant get Win 10 free anymore,,what a pain this stupid Watchdog virus is. This thing messed up my boot files,,not even the computer store could get it to boot. So i bought another SATA drive, made it my Primary drive,,reloaded Win 8.1 and made the other drive a secondary where i could get my files and pics off of it. So i guess im out of luck on getting Win 10 free again correct?

No - use the Assistive Technologies link to upgrade free back to Win 10.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/acce...ndows10upgrade

I've used this method to upgrade two Win 7 laptops within the last month.

Weedhopper, if you have successfully upgraded to Windows 10 before, you will have what is known as a digital license.

Have a look here for more information.

Yeah this virus kicked my butt. The Recovery CD could not fix it or the registry. Took it to a Computer repair shop,,,no luck. Like i said i bought another Drive,,used my Recovery CD to load 8.1 on the new Drive. Made the infected drive my secondary drive,,removed the files i needed and im now using it for storage.
Im thinking about loading Win10 back on the old drive, but im still concerned about that stupid Watchdog virus.

Doing some research, I found this article on the 'Watchdog Virus'.
    https://malwaretips.com/blogs/window...atchdog-virus/

I've never had it and don't intend to get it, but it's nice to know there is a place to get info on how to remove it.

Personally, if I ever do get it, I'll just restore my last C: drive backup, and that will blow it off. Everyone using a computer today, that goes on the internet, should have a backup copy of their C: drive safely stored on a removable drive.

Thanks guys for all your post. I was using AVG,, which i found out is one of the culprits. Yes i know i should have cloned my drive,,but i didnt. I did a rdcovery CD when i first loaded 8.1 but didnt do a recovery CD for Win 10 when i use the free upgrade. I know, i know,,im a big dummy. Course it wouldnt have fixed the infected drive eather way,,but i could have reload Win 10 instead of 8.1 on my new Drive. I will use the link abovd to reload Win 10 later. Right now im fine with 8.1.

There's no way of telling how long that link will remain active.

What you could do is to clone your current 8.1, use the link to upgrade and make a separate clone of that and then you can decide at your leisure what you want to use.
