    Windows 10 Insider

Is there any reason to switch to Windows 10 Insider builds (even on the slow ring) on my primary PC, or are Windows 10 Insider (even slow ring) builds buggy enough to not enable on my primary PC?

    Thanks!

    Nathan, good morning.
I run 5 machines here on Insiders and all perform quite nicely. This said, we are all different and run different apps, you might not run W-10 Insider as well as I do here. I did not notice any bug in any of my machines on this OS.
Use Acronis, do a clone and you shall be protected if anything goes wrong, which does not take place here but still I have a clone of all my machines. HTH.

    Have a great day. Jean.

I've been running in the Fast Ring for over 2 years. I've never had a crash or had to revert to a prior release. There have been a few weird things at various times. Many people would say to never run pre-release software on your primary PC. You need to answer a few questions though:

Do you do frequent enough system backups to easily recover from a serious error?
Do you have the stomach for some weirdness?
Do you have the stomach for programs not working or partially working?
Are you willing to take the time to learn changes and new features?
Can you afford the time to restore your system from a backup?
Can you afford the time to revert to a prior version of the OS?

Great points from both of you that responded. I do nightly images of my system with Macrium Reflect, so I do have an easy way to restore in the event I need to.

I've got another copy of Windows 10 in a VMWare VM I can run in VMWare Player. Should I try putting that VM on Insider first to get a "feel" for things, and if it feels stable, then consider it for my primary PC? I have the VM backed up as well, so I can toss and one-click restore it in the event I ever needed to.

I ran the insider builds for 2 years also but I ran them in a hyper-v window. They pretty much ran great until about 2 months ago. I couldn't get the next update installed after 4 tries and as I was very busy at the time so I put it aside for a couple of weeks. Next time I booted it up it locked me out. Didn't have time to figure out how to get it back as a clean install still wouldn't let me back in. My digital license shows in my account but it doesn't seem to work.

I would ask a slightly different question. Why would you want to switch to the Insider builds?

IOW, what would you expect to get out of it and would you be willing to walk and exercise it every day and feed and water it and clean up after it when it made a mess. If that sounds like the questions to ask about getting a puppy, there's a reason - they are very similar in many ways.

If you have a Win10 in a VM that is a great place if you want to try the Insider Program.
