Direct X 8

I'm running Windows 98 on a 266 mhz with 96 RAM. When I try to install the new Direct X 8, it installs about a quarter of the way and then an error message pops up and says "Either not enough memory or a bad cab file." I've closed everything so that nothing is running except Explorer and I've downloaded the file several times from different sites, and I still get this. Can someone help me with this? Thanks.

Go to your windows temp folder and empty it also if you have a c:Temp folder clear it also. I have read that this sometimes will help with the problem you described

Try getting the latest version of the Windows Installer from MSs site, if you haven't updated that recently. That fixed a similar problem for me.
